Peer Review

Evaluation of research by independent experts before publication.

Peer review is the process by which scientific manuscripts are evaluated by independent experts in the same field before publication in academic journals. Reviewers assess methodology, data analysis, interpretation, and conclusions. While not infallible, peer review serves as a quality control mechanism that filters out fundamentally flawed research. Supplement studies published in peer-reviewed journals carry more weight than those in non-reviewed publications or company-sponsored white papers.
